Please help me support Immune Deficiency Foundation by making a contribution to my fundraiser and sharing this page with your family and friends. Every dollar I raise will advance Immune Deficiency Foundation's great cause! Additionally, you can ask me how you can get involved too.
Together, we can make a difference!
Aubree was diagnosed with Primary Immunodeficiency - Common Variable Immune Deficiency back in October of 2018. Since that diagnosis Aubree has had to endure monthly infusions of IVIG "liquid gold" to help maintain her health. This diagnosis was a long time coming.. early on Aubree had frequent ear infections, many episodes of bronchitis and a few cases of pneumonia. We had ear tubes placed, adenoids and tonsils removed in hopes it would alleviate some of these illnesses but it didnt.
Aubrees situation was complicated by many allergies to common antibiotics that were used to treat these illnesses.
Last summer Aubree started to develop illness induced asthma which led us to a specialist at Boston Children's who immediately new something was off and quickly knew she was in need of relief. After extensive studies and tests her allergist/immunologist diagnosed Aubree with PI-CVID.
What does this mean? Aubree does not have a functioning immune system, her body is unable to fight off common infections or retain vaccinations to protect her from illnesses and diseases. In return she needs to receive a blood plasma product called IVIG to help give her immunity to common illnesses and disease she is not protected against. Aubs will need to go in for infusions that last up to 6 hours every 3-4 weeks to sustain a semi-normal immune system.
Unfortunately but fortunately she is strong little girl and identifies that these infusions "fix" her up and make her feel better. These infusions also eliminate an extensive medicine regimen of pills and inhalers. Aubree loves her "Boston" days as it's become her special day..she gets fro-yo, pizza, treats, visits with therapy dogs, visits from clowns and a fun filled say with lots of special attention. She has a wonderful supportive team at Children's who she has built strong bonds with over the course of 6 months. In addition Aubree has made some friends as well that are frequent flyers!
We dont know what the future holds with this diagnosis as every person is different and have different ailments hence the zebra symbol but I know we have the support and love to get her through all of this!
Aubree Jean is an amazingly smart loving little girl and is my special zebra! Please consider walking with us or supporting her and many others in this journey!
